One of the ^teemed pastors, (Rev James B Done lan.) and all the teachers (numbering twenty males and twenty-five females) aocompanied the innocent and joyous party. On reaching the wharf, they were joined by many others, among whom were some of tbe parents of the hippy children At about 0 o cloek, the boat gra.-efully swung from her moorings, bearing between five and six hundred of the rising generation?their little hearts, like the tiny waves that played around the steamer, leap ing up in pride and exultation, and bdght an ticipations of joy and pleasure filling their youthful mind9 These anticipations, we are glad to be able to state, were fully realised in all the incidents of the trip. Joy brightened every countenance?pleasure gladdened every heart?beaming smiles blended with the glow ing sunshine, and the merry laugh mingled with the gentle music of the wave ' On reaohing the White House the cempacy proceeded to the ball room and witnessed the beautiful and interesting ceremony of crown ing the May Queen. Miss Frances Marion Joyce, a sweet little innocent about eight J ears of age, was crowned as Queen?her [aids of Donor being four pretty little chil dren, named respectively Misses Julia Bridget, Marion Parker, Virginia Cassell, and Anna Moc. The Queen was addressed by Master John Francis Seits. who made a very ceat and appropriate speech, closing with the hope that she would preside over willing hearts with as much joy as her coronation afforded her young subjects; to which her youthful Majesty res ponded, in tones of angelic sweetness, tender, ing her warmest thanks, accepting their feal ty, and aesurirg them of her kind patronage Master John Gray then addressed the company in an eloquent manner, tendering thanks to the pastor, teachers, and congregation for their exertions in the cause of Chriaian edu cation. and for their constant remembrance that little children are the favorites of Hea ven?cloaing with a beautiful tribute to the Blessed Virgin, to whom the month of May had been ao appropriately dedicated. After these interesting ceremonies, music resounded from the orchestra, and many of the little ones were flitting like sunbeams through the mates of the dance, while others rubied through the woods, cnlling sweet flowers, or roamed along the fishing shore, or proved themselves true disciples of old Ike Walton by angling for the finny tribe. Some of the party went to Mount Vernon, and spent the day pleasantly amid its sacred shades, returning to the White House in time to rejnn their frienui At 5 o'clock the com pany departed for home, reaching tbe Wash ington wharf about sun?e'-~not a single un toward event having occurred to mar the plea sures cf a day, tbe recollections of which will linger among the most delightful memories of all who were so fortunate as to share in its enjoyments. G*0RaET0Wn, May 10,1855. ^ eaterday morning about 7 o'clock, as Mr George Craig was on his way to Washington, and when near the Georgetown Sohool House. W88 stated by a bundle of cot ? on clothing on fire, which fell from a broken pane in one <f the upper windows of a small -rame tenement. Supposing something to be wrong iDside, he forced the door open, which was locked, and went in. Upon going up stairs he found the window curtains, bed and portions of the bedding on fire, and an infant child sound asleep upon the bed. Mr Craig made no alarm, but went coolly to work, an! in a .ew minutes succeeded in extinguishing the fire and saving the life of the infant upon the bed, and another small one which was in the house at the time, both of whom would soon have been suffocated by the smoke It appears that the mother of the children, a colored woman, had gone out, leaving the ?hi!dren locked up in the house, which was certainly very wrong; and while she was gone, the eldest, about three years old. had got hold ot a box of matches, and set fire to the place, wnich mu=t have done considerable mischief had not Mr C. fortunately discovered it at the time he did.
