AN EPIC OF THE STARRY HEAVENS. The following lines are extracted from a WASHINGTON STOFE MANUFACTSRY, S. E. corner of Pa. av. and Eleventh street, Sole agar for OHILSON, ULD & COS poem with the above title, which purports to| Warming and Ventilating Apparatus, have been written from the dictation of Thos. L. Barris, a “medium,” while in a trance - “Strangely it looks to me to see from far jist poe Earth like soon peach « its round sides seemed limiuess; bu Iv disc is like an apple on a bough. — All size is relative, and God alone Knoweth the actual value of each one Of the it globes that in the ether swim Aid worlds, because of men, are dear to him. “1 often used to wish at eventide I were a spirit freed and . Wandering through trockleas ether at my will, And when planet Mars shone bright and still, I bailed its ruddy flame, and wished [ were Midst its unvisioned reaims a wanderer. Ob, transition! I have left that spark, That where I was born, so dim and dark, And water free as any viewless wind “0 God! thy goodnesa everywhere I find The space man thinks devoid of life is all. One high celestial hall, by the deathless spirits of the free, Members of one sublime Humanity.” Apvice To Youne Laprus.— Clandes- tine courtships are not only dishonorable and uncertain as to their results, but a base fraud upon the confidence of parents. They are im all aspects disceditable, because, however pure or sincere, the concealment implies a doubt of the integ- rity of one of the parties. Either the man is ashamed ofthe woman, or the woman, is ashamed of the man, or some- body interested is ashamed of one or the other of them, or they design to deceive confiding parents or gurrdians ; but look at it in any way or light, the preceeding is disreputable. The young woman com- promises her reputation—for “people will talk,” scandal will originate, and society, detesting secrecy in affairs of the heart, is prone to be censorious ; and the man, if not restrained by some purity of principles, is ever ready to regard the Woman with suspicion, at least. They think, with Brabantio, that ifa girl de- ceives her parents, she will deceive others also. So, girls, have a care that in at- tempting to deceive others, you are not yourselves deceived. Worp Twistinc.—The oldest hus- bandry we know, is when a man in clo- yer marries a woman in weeds. Remorse is the tight boot that pinches the sole. The bread of repentance we eat is, in many instances, made of the wild oats wo sow in our youth. —_—_—_—_—_—_——— MOVEMENTS OF OOEAN STEAMERS &P The California steamera icave New York on tbe Sth and 20th of each mouth. — . Let the afflicted hear him, and then decide whether to suffer on or be made eler Ye professional men, with ruined heal:b, ear: Rev. James W. Huxniccr, the talented and inde- pendent editor of that highly popular and extensive ly read paper, the Christian Banner, published at Fredericksburg, Va., in his editorial ot the t8th of May, 1855, thus speaks of HAMPTON’S VEGE- TABLE TINCTURE: “Some time ago we merely alluded to Hampton’s Vegetable Tincture, with a promise of noticing more icularly the great relief we have ourself derived from its use. During our collegiate course, owing to sedentary habits, we became quite dyapep- tic, and were very much troubled with vertigo For more than twelve years after leaving coliege, we were laboring under these two afflictions In the spring of 1 our general health became so delicate that it was with great difficulty we could attend to the ordinary duties of our profession Everything we ate immediately turned acid, our digestive or gans became wholly deranged ; losing as it seemed to us, all their activity and vitality; we were con- stanily depressed in spirit, our energy almost tor- sook us, and nothing but necessity urged us on to action. We had taken strong medicines, observed great particularity in our diet, and all to no purpose We had despaired of ever recovering our health, when 4 female friend of ours importuned us to get a bottle o! Hampton’s Vegetable Tincture, assuring us ‘hat we would find great relief from its use. Ve briefly replied, “we would not give a dollar for all the Tinc- ture Hampton ever made, so far as Our own individ- ual health was concerned.” We had no faith in it nor any other medicine in effecting a cure on us. In the kindness of her heart, however, without con sulting us about it, she sent and got one bottle and urged us to accept of it, and for her sake, as it could not possibly injure us, to use it according to direc tion. For the high regard we had for her and her act of kindness, we promised to do so. And with out exageration we can truly say that before we had used the contents of one bottle we felt like a newman We used, consecutively, from ten to fifteen bot- tles. We were afraid to give it up, fearing our old diseases might return. Since then, our digestive organs have been uniformly correct, our head clear, and so far as our labors, toils, liabilities, responsi bilities, and worldly cares will allow, our spirits have been buoyant, and we eat what we please, and as much as we please, and when we please— and allis well. For the sake of the afflicted we make this statement, hoping that others may find the same relief from its use that we have. It should be hept in every family. No family should ever be without. Jacuson, Philadeiphis—Dear Sir: 1 have been a subject of Dyspepsia, in its worst f mn, for the last five years. Such was, my condition fo" cwelve months that the physiciansjand all who saw me said [ must die. While in this condition, J war carried to the watering placesin Virginia, Tennes see and North Carolina, but was not benefited by any water to which I was taken. While on my way home, I ped a week at Rutherfordton, a sm@! village in North Carolina, to try the effect of some Chal water in that place. About the last of the week, I went into a drug store to get some medicine for = child and myseif. There were several of the village physicians in the store, and one of them seemed to take some interest in my case and, after asking me some questions, said he had been ‘a dyspeptic, and had been ly bene. fitted by the use of “Dr. Hooffand’s German Bit- ters,” prepared by you, and he iusisted that I would try the Bitters hie also called the next day at my room, and insisted so much that I would try them that Tasked him to me one bottle. He did it, and | commenced g it as directed, and { do say L was more beuvfitted by it than all the water and medicine I had ever taken After reaching home one of my neighbors came to me fora ription and medicine, (he a dyspe - tic,) and { gave trim nearty all the Bitters I had eh, which effected much in his case. He has often calied on me for more of the same knd of medi- cine, saying he was more benefitted by it than any other he had taken, but I have not been able to get any more for him or myself sit.c. 4 sore, please ship me a dozen or sible, Respectfully yours, W.
