We also find inthe Int-/ligencer an account of the proceedings of the Know Nothings in National Convention in Philadelphia, subse quent to those published yesterday in the Star, from which we make extracts by way Of keeping our readers posted. Thus the io! lowing was the vote, by States, on the adop- tion of the platform: Ayes —New York, Delaware, District of Co- lumbia, Virginia, North C: lina, Georgia, Sou'h Carvlina, Florida. Ohio, lowa, Pennsylvani>, Mas- sachuserts, Winsconsin, and Minnesota It will be perceived from this vote that our talented, amiable, courteous, chivalric, enter taining, mode:t, enthusiastic, ingenuous, truthiui, and knowing neighbor, barked up the wrong tree, yesterday, in congratulating itself on the assumed fact that Pennsylvania and New Jersoy did not stand on the platform question with the rest of the North. The following is the protest of the Pennsyl- vania delegates and others against the plat- form aforesaid : The undersigned, citizens of the United States and residents of the States set opposite their names, solemuly protest against the i troduction of any question connected with slavery into the plattorm of principles of the American party, being convinced that no such ‘--nee were intended to be embraced within its T poses jisate ae aaiamene in and shail defend the Tight of freedom of op vion and discussion on that and every other aubj-ct not intended co be embrace ~ithin the design of our organ pray Tpat if the question of Upon and made a part of our national creed, then in that event we cannot aistently act, with fidelity to our prin nd fo mer pro- fessions, with spy national organisation whose action on the question of slavery will result in endorsing the Kansas Nebraska and which retuses its sanction to the principles of the Missouri compromise act of 1520 That we believe that time honored compact was an bonorable and fair adjustment of the question of slavery. We desire to place thiz protest upon the Journals of the Cocecil, that in no fucure time the undersigned may be charged with infrac. tion of expressed or implied faith to their fel- low.members in failing to support the majo- rity resolutions W.F Jobaston, Pa.
