EVENING STAR. Iupontant Correction —We invite careful attention to the following important correction of an indisputable misrepresentation, accom- ied by a document which bears ‘‘ The ruth’’ upon its face : Court or Cuaims.—Yesterday, the argu- Ment in the case of J. Alexis Port, was re- sumed by Mr. Rockwell, who concluded his remarks, and the case was submitted for the decision of the court. The case of G. H. Berryman vs. the United States was next called by the court. This is the claimof 0. H. Berryman, commander of the United States schooner On-ka hy-e, and others, for the prize-money of the barque asiave trader, captured by the claim- ants in 1847. Mr. Rockwell appeared for the claimants, and took the ground that the claimants are =o hth cae = — of the ——— ark, together with about $20,000 specie found on board. The Solicitor followed, and admitted the claim for one-half of the captured property only to be just, and stated that to be the opin- fon of the Secretary of the Navy. He claimed, , that a portion of the money found on beard went into the hands of the marshal of the southern district of New York, a defaul- ter, and that the Government was not respon- sible for it. The Selicitor had not concluded his remarks, when the court adjourned. (FOR THR STAR. The only feature in the week’s news is the variety of rumors stating that there is at least a prospect of peace. And rumor says that Russia has directly requested Prussia to make conciliatory offers to the Western Powers, and Prussia is said to have accepted the mission Austria also ie reported to have assented The most definite form the rumor has assumed is, that propositions have been submitted to Napoleon on behalf of Russsa, whieh can bo accepted, and these mainly are, that Russia Will corelude peace with the Western Powers, without the intervention of either Aaustria or Prussia, Russia acceeding to the guaranteed independence of the Principalities on the Dan- ube and the freedom of the Black sea; both parties to continue the preparations for the war, but no active hostilities to be entered upon up to an agreed date. All this may pos- sibly be premature, but hopes are strong that peace may arise. id The excitement respecting American affairs had almost passed. The Danish Conference met on the 20th but took uo action. ‘The King of Prussia had made a speech to the Chambers, and announced decidedly that Prussia would continue to maintain her present neutrality. Some important changes had occurred in the English Cabinet. There was nothing of importance from the Crimea or Asia. &The Admiralty contrasts for provisions have been taken at much lower grades than was expected—the average price aeing seven pounds seven shillings for tierce pork, and nine pounds for American pork. Tefiders to the extent of ten thousand packages were ac- cepted at ten pounds ten ehillings. American stocks had improved, and largo sales had been made at 3 per cent., and closed at Paris on Friday at if. advance LATER The King of Sardinia arrived at London on Friday where he was received with great en- thusiasm. Gen, Canrobert left Copenhagen for Paris on the 30th of November. His visit bad proved most satisfactory.
