Procuring a gang of stevedores, he went to tbe vessel, and finding only tbe mate on board, who made no opposition to a search, be removed tbe hatcbcs and overhauled the cargo. In tbe bold, stowed away forward, beneath an assortment of otber merchandize, were found 25 cases of muskets marked "E. B ." On inquiry of tbe mate, Capt Hntchins was informed that the schooner was bound to Carthagena; but a close Investigation of tbe cargo did not verify tbe state meni, as some or me goods were marked -'Savannah. Ga." The nui*keU were immediately removed from the schooner and placed on the dock, whence they will be taken to the arsenal to-day. The arms seized by the police on Tuesday last on board the steamship Aionticelio, marked for shipment to Montgomery, Ala., remain at the new Arsenal, corner of 36tb ?treet and Seventh avenue, where tbey were removed by order of the Superintendent of Police ou the day of their seizure for ! safe keeping. Tuesday evening, Mr Kennedy was waited upon by some legal gentlemen, who endeavored to persuade him to give them up He Informed them there was but one way to set possession of them, and that was by process of law. Yesterday morning the Superintendent of Police laid the matter before the Grand Jury for their consideration. He alsocalled upon the United States District Attorney. J J. Ruoaeveit. wLo seemed to doubt whether he had authority to act In the matter There were thlrty-ei^ht boxes In all, containing twenty live muskets each, making a total of nine hundred and fifty. They have percussion locks of improved manufacture, and stamped "A. I Windsor, 1S5?,'' with the coat ofarnis of the British Government. This fact led to the opinion that they were of English manufacture, but upon Inquiry It appears that In tbe ear 1358 the English Government gave a very large order, amounting to several hundred thousand pounds, to the Arms Manufacturing Company, at Windsor, Vermont The guns In question no doubt belong to the same lot. and are probably the ones rejected by the English Government upon inspection They are very highly finished and combine many of the modem improvements Up to last night no Claimant had appeared.
