TIllE TRUE AMERICAN. EDIrrBD DV Jasts eia5IBSON. FAITHFUL AND BOLD. NEWV OR LEANS: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28. 18.3 (*- The Express Mail yesterday brought eas no slips beyond Charleston. Much as we desire to inform our renders the result of the attack an Pres. cott, in Upper Canada, we are obliged to beg them to be patient and keep cool. Proridions.-The boats are now arriving hourly front the Ohio, and as they tome down so also comes down the price of flour. Yesterday we had many arrivals from above, and they report between thirty anrd forry boats on their way prin cipally loaded with flour. Some of these have taken freight at $2 50 per barrel, and as the price is already so low they who shipped will make but a losing apecu'ation. Besides flour, the arrivals of yesterday bring a variety of provisions almost as acceptable as the staflof life itself. Oao boat, the Newark, in addition to 500 barrels of flour brought 217 Turkeys, hesides a great eumbor of oular yassengers. This is as it should be. The boats that bring an increased number of mouths to feed should also bring tlhe wherewithln to staff them, and what so it for stulffing as Turkeys. Our market prices for provision are high enough, all know. but we are still better off than some of our neighb-urs. For instannee, the Advertiser lately gave the prier s of sundry common articles demanded in tire maracet at 'Natchez,' M.ississippi. This was clearly understood by every body here but by the time the paper reached New York, it had undergone an entire transformation, and tile Tinmes,' of that city quoted the substance of the article. and headed it 'Price olarticles in tlle .Nw Orlearns Market.' Delateare.-Although owing to somen local in. terectsa loco Ioeo melnber of Congress has been chosen by a contemptible majority in Delaware, it is pretty certain that the whigds have majority in joint ballot of the legislature which will ensure the continuance of a whig Senator. So far the local politics work us less injury than our kind friends the Tories have been lately flattering them selves with. From Texas we have news to the 19th inst. a' which date the schooner Wrm. Bryant left. She brings the intelliyence that Corn was abundant, but that flour, bacon, whiskey, suear, coffee, lard, &c. were at enormous prices. The Indians were still concentrating near the head waters of Trin ity. Owing to the numerous arrivals announced and expected fl ur h.s come down to little more than the price it commands in Cincinnati. Coal must decline in like proporrion, as an immense rnrrber of flat boats loaded with the article are nowjvurneying towards our city. The Crimitnl court, now in session, will be occupied today in tic trial of Mrs. Doryle, and of Johnson, S nihe, and Davie, for tile murder of the sailor in tite infamous house kept by the former n Girnd at. So beastly, and noutraoeou a murder In all its napecrts, has scarcely been known ill rat commrntrity, and we trust that no quibble, errar, or mistaken elemency will thwart tie course of Justice. Society demnantds its rights and we doubt, not, will receive them. The Governtr'a Guarces have been favorr i wit a polite invitation from Mr. Georgue I. Darrett tihe umun-ger of the Camp theatre to attend th perfo'mance, there on Friday evetiog, whicl Capt. Cross on behalf of himself and company hIas accepted. The company having had mat lime to prepare will turn out much stronger than they have heretofore, before, hb sides the dry no having such imperative duties attached to it, wil enable many more to attend than assembled o. Sunday last. / The subject of direct importations afrom Eu rope is justly occupying the atlenlion of the South era press, and faithfully do we any "God spee( their efforts 'lill tihe righteous end be gained.' We hope, truly hope, to see the promised purpesi carried out of establishing a line of British steamt ers from Liverpool to our own beloved city: hui we have yet another 'anchor ahead.' One ofoni noblset ships now in port, commended by one of our most spirited seamen, will we hope return from her Liverpool voyage fitted with one olCapt Erickson's new engines, which without eneumb, ering the ship, or hindering the free use of her canvass, will insure hersix, or eight knots an hour against adverse winds, or baffling calmns. Our Mohile friends are likely it, repair quickly their loss of dralaric amusements, at least in eart. Their indefatigable manager Mr. Sol. Smith whose mnotto is 'never give up' has been in our city for some days past collecting wardrobelr, music, books, novelties, and oitler materials for resuming operations, and we are truly glad to find he has succeeded Ito such aln extent the lately burnt-out company will. under their old captains Ludlow and Smith re-ripen the fall campaign, at tihe new theatre on Government street, on Monday next. Such energy is worthy of all praise, such indastry is bound to thrive: annd we doubt not that the citizens of Mobile will justly eetimatl, and recompense such indomitable resolulion to rises superior to the accidente if life. .Nol dead.-We learn fronm the Sciuta Gazerte that the account if Mr. Creighton ihe whig rnem. her elec to the Ohio legislalure from the counties of F.ayette and Madison is altogether an error. The Gazette states that Mr. Creighton is fast re covering from the illness which it was feared would terminate fatally, and has now every pros pect of being able to attend his duties at the sitting of the state legislature. Mrs. and Miss Charlotte Barnes arrived here yesterday from Cincitnati. And why is Dr Duncan, the pet of thte Adminis. trstion, allowed to go unwhipt of justice?-Cin. Post. Surely our friend of the " Post" must have lost the run of recent mettere, or he could not ask this question after the storm of virtuous indignation which has been raging around the reptiles name front the very day when Hamilton county so dise graced itself, as to return the sor, the bully, and the black.guard, of the abo!itionists, to represent them in the Congress of the United States. There is not a respectable man in the south but spits at the very name of Duncan! there is not a foot amongst us but woulJ spurn the amalgamationisl. Fit associate for Van Buren, Juhueon, and crew, let him proceed again to Washir gton, a stain on those who sent him,, despised by those who are enforced to meet hire. If Hamilton be not already ashamed of her representative, let her listen fur six months to come to the terms of contempt,, the epilthets of digut and disgrace w;th which his honest ecasdjutors are bound to bespatter him! When 'hey hear these things, let them answer us -d d ever Ohioans so signally disgrace Ihem. selves as when they sent uncatten to is-represent them in the council of the nation. Tl'h. Nh'ahville Rail Road Is now extehded between three and five miles beyond the "Prairie Cottage" which by some of the sceptica of our city was deemed the saliieo Makle of its present construetion. But that constrmetion-thatmodeof road making-so far from failing off by experience, hat every day incre ased in fa vor with all who have had an opposiunity ofwitnessin it. Instead offollowing the old fashioned, slow method of pileing, or even of the less dilatory process of em banking, the frame is now placed on the natural Prairie, anti no road that was ever traversed by a locomotirve can be more firm, smooth, or expeditious. Had the principle been earlier adopted greater progress would doubtless have been made, yet any one who inspects the works now for tile first time in six months would ircon tinently disbelieve the evidence of his own senses. Nothing in now wanting to insure success to that road lwhich will for ever remedy the evils, we have lately suffered from low water, but the cordial co.operation of the legislature. Let them but met their hands to the plough, and the harvest is sure. IDT The coming races on the Eclipse Course at Carroll:on promise to exceed any thing of the kintl yet seen in the South. We have examined the track and find it in first rate condition. No course perhaps in the Uaion in bettercalcnlated for making good time thian the Eclipse is now. They have some "tall talks" at Carrollton as t t.th field likely to contest the four mile races, and speculations are rife that Sarah Blades, Wagner, Josh Bell, imported Maria Black, and Pres. sare will go for it. If they do,more money will change hands than on a settling day in the Stock Exchange. tichigan.--Each day brings with it a greater probi ability that a complete reform is making in this new and hitherto loco foto state. By the latest accounts re ceived it is more than probable that Wella, the Whig candidate for Congress has been elected; and that the whigs will have a majority on joint ballot in the legisla ture, so as to secure a whig senator in lieu of the pres ant loco-foco ineumbent. This will be indeed a tri unph. Yetcan it not be wondered at. The citizens of SMichigan have been pillaged, and stripped, by the vagabond institutions nl the "Wild Cat" onler, forced on them by the loco-focus hitherto controlling their leI gislature, and though the general condition of the state be nert flourishing, its citizens, no nmre than any cthl era, can quietly suffer millions to be extracted front their purses without visiting on ti anuthors of the legalized robbery all the vengeance of ltr Imllot box. CANADA. Tie following extract is from the .lontreal Herold of the 15th, relating to the confeseson of French General. engaged in the affair at Odletown, and made prisoner by the British. t" The French officer, San Martine, whom we noticed as one of the prisoners taken at Odletown, has been brought to ,wn, and offers, if he gets his liberty, to deliver Dr Robert Nelson, dead or alive, to the aethrorities. We very much doubt if this offer will be accepted. He states that he has been the victim of deceit and treachery; that he was assured of having under his command an army of thirly thousand men, well equiiiped and brave, instead of which le fotund only three or four thou. sand miserable wretches, armed to be sure, but the rankest cowards lhe ever had any conanection with. He deserves the deatho era brigand, and we trust he will meet it. The rebels were duped by expectations of something great being effected from the presence of a French General, and he expected marvellous fears to be performed by men who pretended they were lighting for liberty and life. They deceived each other. The only tie which bound them together was hatred of the British name said British goivernnent, and as their obiects in life were sinilar, let theim not he divid ed in deati. ''Ten enilows Is good enough for them, and it sufliciently used, will prevent i ' sympathly" frota Ioretitger,. as well as treason from subjects, for ihe futut." Thte Rlifer, &c.--rollt thie Cincilnatl'Niews, eof Wednesday, the 21st, we extract these few parti. culors. The 'ittsburg Gazette of Thursday last, has Ihe followi.g " It rained considerably last night, and is raining at this tin e, with every appearance of its co, linu. ance. 'lThe weather is very tnildand must rapidly dissolve Ithe snow to the north of ts, eo that by Saturday, we may expect an addeiti on rise."
