At a meeting of the citizens of New Orlanns, convened at thie St. Louis Exchllange, last evenirng, the 12th instant. for the purpose ol invting Gene" F ral Andrew Jackson to participate lt thie coenhra t' tion of the approaching anniversary of the Gleri. i ons Eighth of January in this city. l Goeneral John B. Plauchd was called to the th Chair, and John L. Lewis was appointed Secretary. Doctor David C. Ker motved that the meeting be c. adjourned to meet at this place on Saturday next, the 16 th instant, at 6 o'e ocl P. M , in order that a more general notce nmay be given, so as to reach t all our fellow-citizens. General Ph'uclld, in a short addrress, observed It that the object of the meeting was not at all con. neecd with the party politie; that all our iillow. citizens were doubtless willing and desirous to du honor to the occasion, and to the Chief who coin tmanded us. Many old soldiers, who served their country in that memorable campaign, had not heard of this meeting, owing to the shortness of the P notice, and would feel much regret ifthey were do p. rived of all opportunity of joining us in the pro posed proceedings. lc, therefore, was in fatvor of I. Dr. Ker's motion, and it was unanimously adopted. Ont motion of J. C. De St. Rtmes. EEq. it was Resolved, That tlhe proe. edings of this meeting I he publislhed inl the French and English languages, in all the papers of tle city; and that the invitation to attenl said meeting be ex tended to all our fellow. citizens withnut, dlistincliol of party. The meeting then adjourned to the tilme and place designated. J. B. PLAUCIIE, Clt rman. Jose L LewIs, Secretary. Miasiessippi.-Dy the mail yesterday and by the t- Ganges, we received tlhe Natchez Freo Trader of " the 9th ; but the way that Loco Foco organ does at not say one word of the election is curious, and in. duces us to tile belief that the Whig cause is tri umphlant in our sister state. From private sources we learn that no doubts exists of thie election of c. Turner, as Governor, Bingetmain and Davis to L Congress, and a tnjori:y to tile Legislature. This secures, ot course, Prentice's election, and tile success of our party is most indtsputably main. . ly to be attributed to Iis manly exertions. REMOVAL OF THIE COURT~S. We are glad to hear that Judge Bnclhaonan iha definitively decided upon removing the District Cou t to tile room in tle Merclhantrs' Frxlhange, heretofour occupied by tile Chaouber of Commerce. We are alsor told that there is a probability of tile removal of the Parilsh Court to tile large room over tie Post Omfice. So we shall have tile tlhree prin. cipal courts, Comutereial, District and ParisI, aill together in thIe business part of tithecity--conven. lent 'br lawyers, jtrors and witnesses. We thltk it would be wortlt thIe while of the Mtlelhant' Ex. change prr prietors to consult an arclhitect, for tile purpose oU matliig Sucir alterations in tiei buildig as wouldoenallu them to firnisb rooms to all the principal courts and o SlherifPs oflice. A floor above the readin rai room and on a level with tile Id story of their building, would give thie space re. quired, without demorlishing ti alpartrrorts allot ted to tho leading roomt, &c. If we are to continue ore peopl., one nati on, we will owe it, in a great tmeasure, to thie focilities of tra. velliug we now possess, and relm deatined to enjoy even in far greater perfection. Telegraphr ought to form a grea tfeature in thie system of national intercourrse. iFrance is tie only country which enjoys a ,ood system of trelgrapis; and it is of inl mense beit fit to Ier. News of the greatest iolpol tance is transmitted from on0 end of tie country to auothIr in a few linu:es-- a - liet is ordered to sea,-~troops are ordered to march to a given point, -d.Inger is nolirfied and averted, as rf by enchantt ment. To a commercial nation-to a repubhe, telegrapuhs would not be confined in tleir use to tpoltrcal matters, sucll as thIe transmission of roy. al orders, &c, but where it would be deceelo of importance to torward regularly, intelligence of all tinds, for the bernefit of the whole people. We could be firnisrlled in this city willt tie genertl items of political and camlmarcial news, but an hour old froul New York. We could have tihe Presidunt'r message lere on the day ofdelivery.
