OffiUial .sjourlta of the 2 A.4atitritialito. PUBLISHED Daily, Trl-Weekly & Weekly. NEW OR LEANS. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 1839. By yesterday's mail our Now York dates are of the 4th, containing the accounts of the Great Westetn. The New York clections hbad begun on the 4th with great spirit. The day previous the Whigs had a most tremendous meeting in front of the Merchants' Exchange. So great was the crowd that the street was rendered impassablo. British Papers.--By the Great Wresero, we have received all immense number of papers from England, Scotland and Ireland, witl Lloyd's List complete, and Prince's Price Current, and full files of the Tam s; all to the very latest dates, and on file in our Road ng Room. As regards the old Cutholic Grave Yard, we think we can propose a plan, which will answer every reasonable end. Let a paved passage be mlade on all the four sides of the Come ery-let it be surrounded hy an elegant railing-a good sir e walk, and then, we think, all good objections to its present condition will be set at rest. We must give our ramced of praise to the prompt ness with which business is earried on in the Com. mercialCourt. The arrangement for fixing cases is better than in tht District or Parish Courts,-it is more convern eat to 'hb bar-a' least to those of the bar with whomt we have conversed. We think it ,houlbl I o universally adolhttd. The practice of serving notices of trial is an excellent one. ly. the.by, speaking of Ithe Cftommercial Court, re. minds us to say, that the jdge shaould have a car. pet laid on tie floor of the court room, to deaden the sound made by persons walking to and fro, whleo the court is sitting. The door, also, should be fixed so as to prevent its rmaking a noise when they open and shut it. PUBLIC MEE'IING. Agreeably to a Resolution adopt, d at the Meet ing on Tuesday evening, the citizens of Now Or leans (witlhout distinction of party) ate requested to assemblo at thb St. Louis Exchange, on Satur day evening the 16tlh instant, at 6 o'clock, for the purpose of makting arrangements to invite General ANDREW JACKSON to participate with the people of Louisiana in celebrating the aplproaching anniversary of the glorious eighth of January, 1813. 3t There is nlrnihin in tlhe wh,,h, ranLg oe I:" lidh po ttry l ore luoe!hitl.t t lol'tll. e 0l t r, o Id I t' , thoth,, te fthowoitg by lle'rrtk.-N.
