It h1as been said, and justly too, that God had crea ed nothing impnrflet. There are certain crea. tures in this world so uttoery insignificant and con temptible, that any, the elighest no ico of them, even in oensure, must elevate them in their own opinion, and, at least, draw them from the dirt and slime in which they delight to wallow--Silent C contempt is all they merit. Cou " v the nwy, why hao.'t tlle'l're A nerietln nnticed duct st ? t'he Americain~thi't like iu, we fear. Like itself, Citli we somottionie tallk till plain; anir d lailn talk " I ters ival no mranips." HWell ae can'l hlelp i.-Ne.ir Orleanst Rai Why ? because we never saw you till resterday. Nas Now to be plain with Mr. Carter, we don't like this you,t or dislike you. If you do, sometimes, I:ke 'I ourself, talk too plain, that would lbutter no pars. inti nips," we know fromn experience; but as long as wat your plain talk is confined within the bounds of rex gentlemanly controversy, y u know we shall never Ott feel otrended ; when you step beyond that limit, tll with a man like you, having pretty fair pretensions que to the character ofa gentleman, we can tall back on our reseroed rights--Ahem. in Your paper is rather good looking ; a little n longer than the Pic, better printed and on better t paper. Don't get angry Kendall. It has a good oa deal of stuff in it ; but new bromn-- keep it boys, bea industrious and never frolick. We wish you success, and all your little fry, so, long as you be- pa have yourself-Alhem n The St. Charles Theatre--We have neglected be. I fore to notice the opening of this splendid erlablish. I Imnet, fit temple of the mnuses. The company, n pretty full list of which we gave some days ago, is cri better in many respects to any we have hoeore had, and with one or two additions, which will most fhr probably be made to It within a short time, will be quite good. Miss Melton, made her reappearance on our boards on Sunday night, and looked and played il handsomer than ever.-Miss Melville is a fine looking and very pretty woman. but we had before seen Mrs. Shaw in Gulnare. Miss M. was intimi- il tedl, or-weo will see her again. Field and his wife, late Miss Riddle, are certainly a very great acqui sition to the St. Charles company. Mrs. Field's Julia we did not witness, but have been informed '*. by those, in whoso j Idgment we can place confi 5 denee, that it was exceedingly good. We are to have but few stars this season, and so much the better; we have always been oplo-ed to the system. This is the main reason, why the stock d company is so much better than usual; and let us 'I' t hope that our citizens will support the manager in if his efforts to restore tile old plan of a regular sta. rio tionary company, composed of those who live and die in tlhe same estlalishlmnt. lh Our friend of the Louisiana Advertiser is mis. I taken, as he will learn upon application to our foreman. St. Thomnlas has northing to do with our th paper but as an occas anal correspondent under his signature-so 'et lit alone; he may have enough of Iris own lies to answer for, without I:aliering any Iy of o s. Tile Courier and the Bee are quarrelling about Sthe seniority of their languages. Pahali. learn Dutch, gentlemen ; that is getting into voghue, and will shortly become the correct language. The it time is not distanti n en probably we shall all splut. Ii ter Dutch with an emllation equal to a flock of ducks surprisod on a frosty morning., by a Creole pointer. Well, let it come, we talk all languages, II and a little of the Iraq u o s too. Grss-Hllopper Story--'l'ii Courier announces the fact that a master of a vesial, arrived her. atle. ly, has in his possession grass-hoppers that fell on Sthe deck of his vessl, six hundred miles from land in the Atlantic Ocean. The editor thinks they ari elocustsa of thle east. Why don't you study geogra- i Sphly man, you would learn the natural history olfI, this phinomena at once. Wholle tle grass.hoplpers I e fell a now island is about to rise up, and they were waitilng to malke part of its population. Our friend of the Louisiana Advertiser, has ta ken our little hit too seriously. We had no inten, t e tion to offend, and would a thorsand times rather i 5 ave torn our paper, and let the world lose our wit, i t than to displease him serioo-ly. We certamnly al. lowed him good qualities that many refuse to recong. r, nize in ourself. Come, Pendergast, give us your le, picture of our dilffreot city journals, and if you hit rt us a little hard, we shall not care. You will not at least be unjust. PAss CHRIbtIAN, 30Lth Nov. 1839. I'o Jout GCIson, EsO Dear Sir:--In conseqclence of" the ntmerrnll statements which have app aledl ill the Courier of your city, In relation to thle allir of C. Bradley,. who was lately lhot at this p ace, in onrqloencec of having delrod the civil autlorities of the county, it is my duty as a party concerned to make a true statement of the whole alf, ir. On the night of the 15tlh ultimo, my mti'es got into an inc!'sure belonging to a colored woman. with which Bradley had been living for sontie (lIne, and on whom he was solely dependant fir sopport. Bradley had become very idle, not pretonding to do any tlhig \lwhatevor. In the iltt osure, thereo was no garden, nor anything that a mule or horsl could injure; the fineu was in a dellapidated state, and not such as the laws requirdl. Without givitng mn any notice, or having made any complaint, of my mules being in tile habit of getting into his an- , closure, lie on the night above mentioned, throught malice shot two of the mules, withl large shot, and i so disabled them that I was deprived of their ser vices for about throo w.oks. In conseqeonce of this illegal conduct of his, I obtained a warrant fr hs arrrrest with the view of having him pnisllhed. So soon as lie was infornmd of the step I had taken, se owithdrew into thle oln's, where lie remained about two weeks; lie then returned to his omlne and said lie was tired ,f lying in the wooIs, and that ihe should i at again go away, and that lie defied the whole county to take him, and that Ihe would shoot down the first man that entered his gate. Two days after this, the acting deplty Sheri i MIr. 'Tho. mas Batson, called upon me and John I)sodeur, to go with himt to assist him in arresting Bradlrey, nd requested us to take our guns with tu. We obeyed thle summons, and as soon as we entered tle gate, lie ealled to us to go back, we however still ad. vaneed towards him ; when lie comne out of his dour armed, with a gun, a pair of pistols and a large kniti. lie hold his cocked gun in a pnsitcnt to shoot, and cried out, unlcss twe left his yard tihe: he would shont. We retired n lew steps closely full ,wed by him, when le raised Ilis gun to ih shoulder, astd at titn same timtle the Sheriff o-dered me to fire. I did so, and wounled him badly. Bradley fired at Iatson at- Iht ame trte, and wounded himi mortally. 11e died in forlrteen hours after Ihe hall received the shiot. ,Wh:li occupied in attetdicng to the woundlJd latson, liralrey made Ihis escapo into the wocodo, where e irrc iie n oil for eight days before hto wia disveovred. As soon as on were infornmldt where Ite was, tile Dep. utly Shelrif, Mr. Ciharles White, c,tiltluoned cmyself iand a few he.lrs, to go that tiglt and tIko Brad. iy. Withiln half a mtle of his hlding pIace: we dis covered hic fire, and immediately proceeded in that direction; ase lad not gone very far before we saw a man make Ili appearance frlom behind a t.ce. I hailed him, antd asked him wlho ie wa; ie answer ed anld said Bradleyi at thle nea time he seappedl his gun at us, when the Sheriff ordered us to shoot. hie it him. Wee did so and he fell dead. he There has been a bench warrant out for Bradley hla for the last six months, and he has continually hie said le would shoot the first man who would at- Eii tempt to arrest him; that he was determined not to eth he taken; and the ivil officers disliked meddling I., with him, as he was considered a dsrporate mnin. Your's respectfilly, F. B. IIEARN. We, thll undersigned, do lie ety certify that the tr foregoing is corre.ct. ti (Signed. Benj. Davi., II. Talbot, ft John Drill, A. II. Adams, .o S. Carper. William Graves, Isidore oerat, Jacqres Deselose de Jean Banprite Bayardl, Jean Dedeau, I' Charles \l hite. Ie Cabs.--Charles Watt-, Judge of the Commercial - Court, has done many things in New Orleans con- i ducveo to the advantnges and comforts nofhis fellow citizens. He was, with Mr. W. Iloffmnn, Esq. ivas projector, we believe, of the Pontchartran Rail Road, and certainly of the New Orleans and Nashville Rail Road, which in yet destined to serve this city as a seceold MBtlippi. To'I the same gentleman, we are indebted for the introduction of calbs, than which notling weas more woanted, or more necessary. Calb being far less f expeo ive than carrinage, travelling in them from oneo section of tire city to another, will cost so aimuch less ns to make it a Inero trifle, and consie quently bring them into general use.
