SShin P.aeler.--The Second Municipality has passed resohltiots, iuthoriising the furtlher issue of one Ihundred thousand of dirty fractional parts of bones whilst.it it is well known,'that they have not yet nigh redeocmed he old" ones; for, although it weekly, appears by the report of the Treasurer, lnt suchll and such an amount of Municipal notes have been redeemcu during the past week. -yet, on closer.aarnination, it will be perceived that 're quontly tile ,lamn, and soncethilessa hirgr amount have been' re.issued. It is pretty geonerally reported, tlhat in secret ses. sibn, last Monday'night, the First Municipality also autho'ised a further emission of one hundred thouusind dollars. That it lhould do so, is not strange; for itis well known, that not only has tMunioipality No. One, been unable to redoeasiher notes, but as a ! successive monnnth rolls rotund, her Treasury is found empty, and lher officers and obligations remain unpaid. B3tt is this the case with the. Second Municipality ? The gentleman whao has, since tIhe organization of the corporation, presided over its financial lafsire, has, notwth-l standing the improvident and enormous expoeidi tures to Iis friend Mr. Mnture, for round stone pavement,.still been able to make both ends meet at the end of each month. True, hie has greatly increased the epoenses of the Municipality, whilst at the sanee timo bhe las dinminiihied its revenues. As witness the excessive wages paid the otficers ano men of tbhe watcle, and many officers ; and oil tlie'othtir hand, the loss of tholsands of dollars in not farming the oyster stanetd, &c. It is possible the financial afttirs of the Munlci spaihty, until lately so well mnanaged, have becoime entangled. We shall see at the end of this month, if tihe yearly "account is permitted to be publielied. In the meanwhile, tihe people should refuse to re ceive shin plasters, when g,.d bank bills and small silver is so abundant. Cabs.-The Sun is out against the Cabs. lie calls them a luxury, andsae they are, a cheap i.jxua ry, and we care not whethler they are introduced from Europe, or Asia, or Africa. Mr. Sun appears to have lost his lknowledge of our city, during his last short visit to the North; le computes its length at two miles, and its brendth at half a nemie. Why main New Orleans including its suil urbs, is six miles in length, and in places, half of a mile, one mile, two miles, and four miles, and tie sesidenls of one section tire very frequently called by their business from one part to tile other ; tihe rail roads and omrnibuses go but in certain directions, and a person wishing to make a quick trip from one end of the city to the other, must hire at coosiderab'o expense a earriagl, or by going on foot, not only over fatigue himself, or neglect, or be too lator for his affairs. Now a cab being a light, convenient and cheap vehicle, lie lumps into it, is carried to the very spot. he wishes-his business is done ex. peditiously, and his contract made, an endorsemient procured and he saved from protest. Oh, a can is the thing: they are not to supersede the omnnibuses, nor liackji, but to be used as aux. iinaries to supply a desideratum of expeditious, clheap and convenient transportatiaoo. Support tihe cabs. Tihe Comnnmercial lanok has requested the Cou rier to state, that the reason why it has quarrelled with the A-sociation of Iloks in this city, is, that they differ in opinion with them, atnd wish to have their own way. It is with great regret that thoe) have decided on takiog this stalnd, but althoogl oppoed to tihe Association, they hope to remain on friendly terms. Tie Coammorcial Baok don't thank the. Louisianian, for its blarneyion art ele Uo yesterday morning, and advises that print to recoal Ict thle old proverb--botween the tree and the bark put not your finger. For an exceedingly witty :aotd beautiful article, we refer our friends to ole,in the Times ofyester. day, headed Oil of Toper. It is about something, we know not well what; but road it, and convic tion will strike as a tlhnderbholt that it is somethingi good. Thissomnthing, nectar, sui erior to that tI the gods, we are i nformed, is "an oil to burn in the silent watches of the night," or"an oil for arllad;" it is a one drink," it ling rs on the palate thke the semottry oalany other good thing, such as a dinner, or the caress of a young girl-it flows down exactl ly like oil, and, indeedl, topera a man off" in fine style. . It is a "paussse cafe," tand cootains the nost agreeable one we ever took. We aro quite intoxicated with the dscnription! umoreovcr it was invented last Sunday, by an un nameablo gentleman, at tacle, assisted by beautifli women. To what a prodigious degree of peroftetion have not the arts and aciernces arrived! Only tlhink, of a new pousse eard, invented at table, by a gentle. mtno aod beaotiful women, that burns in the silent watches toftli t night, and serves to tdress our sal had, that is a fine dri,tk, that ingers on tlhe palate like thie nlerory of any ithel good thing. Iuch as a dinner, thle aress of a youngl girl-a pig atld wllis, tit, a fat beef steak to al hungry mai, or a warmt foot bathlll. Oil it ullslt lie dilicilus; do, brlother of tbo l'inlce, soudl us a thttlh of yolr -Oil of Tapter." W, are authorised to uto l that the race which has been announlcd to cometo l oUlr tile etitaire Course, on the day next procedlosg thll Jockey Club fall meeting, between o .lIrtapha, and MIr. Perry's horse Stub-twret, will not coins ofif; ulnsta pha having omet with anl accidrot in training, he will not probably presout himself for stauting in any of the tracks. Newt Play.-We haov been favored by the ao thor witlh a copy of his transl tion of Alexanlder Dumlan' play of Paul Jones. It is a very spirtecd and eflctvoe drama, abounding ill stirring inlideont, and would no doubt take well. ''tie trauslation, Ihowever, is too close, and the I.ulguago ofton inolc. gant. A tmore pertcht Iran-lation, one at least more idiomatic, would place it along the first of that species of drumaa for w liich Dulmas is cele brated. New Church.--During the past suonnner, a small congregation of Episeopdlias, residing too far dis. Lant from tle C,ulal street claucllh, to render their regular attendance there convenieyt, have eree ed at the corner of Camp and IIB tholontew streets, in the Second Municipality, a very neat little lchurch, capable of containiag about five hundred, called thie St. Pail's. OnSunday nest tlhis now temple of woral ip will be opened by Clharles Goodrich, a na tive of this city, whit will perform divine service, at 11 o'clock in tile morning. We lihd long intenlded to pay a compliment to MZis Jones, but tie Sun is beforehand willth os, and has donle it it in sucht beautlifl style, that nlost prove salke flattering to her and persuasive to those who know her. Thoe raioy weatlher hs sot in.to It poulrs down now with an apparent inlltention of naver e.'aaintt. Oh it is real John Bull cut throat. Cold ntud ioot, cloudy' an!d sunshine, wet and l y, lout always muddy. Well, we.Louisiain lans have so ItoItch good weather we should'nt grumble at a little bid. MaOlS.-..A conglomeration of papers were re ceioed'yestesday, frem every point of the compass, apd we brlieve by tIhe mail. Assisted by offieurs oi whom he can depend, his oare is directed to the comfort of his passengers and tthe safe expediting of his boat upon it journey. Nor must we forget to no. tice tim style of living on the Monononghahel. Its sumptuousness spaaks well for the dilligenco of the steward. The Monongahela is peculiarly adapted to the comfort and. convenience of families who would visit Now Orleans, or return to the upper coun try. Her rate of running is fast enough for safety, being from 16 to 18 miles per hour down strealn. There is one of Nunn's best piano, on board. liHer tonnage, Customl House measurement, is 240 tons. There rs a patent fire hose on board, that can deluge a fire in any part of the boat in an ilstant.
