GEN*. MCCLELL AN'S WAR PREPARA TIONS. — We learn from a private source, Tv.trthy of credence, that Gen. McClel -1 jii, on last Tuesday morning, had 66 lotteries of artillery, of six guus each, of varioas caliber, and about 100,000 men, at and near Washington, and that this army will lie increased to nt lea->t 200,000 men before- the end of the present week. The organization and ■lrill of these troops are goiii£ forward with industry nnd care, and the degree of discipline" already apparent in every company, regiment, and brigade, is in the highest degree creditable to the offi cers ami the men, and promise great ef fectiveness in any future operations that mav be undertaken against the en emy. TThe movements of troops and everything connected with the ariny preparations, are carefully kept from i.nblic knowledge ; but the facta above •riven (to state which can l»c no harm 1 now, but will gratify public interest,) may be relied upon, coining as they do from one who knows whereof he sjteaks., —Chicago Journal. Sept. ht THE GOOD TIME COME!— The people of California can now receive telegraph ic communications front St. Louis in three dags!— only rome two thousand miles. In another month or so, we pre sume, that a telegraphic dispatch which i will leave St. Louis some dav at ten o'clock A. M., will reach San Francisco the same morning at half past seven.! This is about as near as man can como! to "annihilating time and space.", When Mr. Strong completes his line of telegraph from Yreka to Portland, we shall be within three hoars of St. Louis ! —Oregonian. PLANET ASIA.— The seventieth plan et has been discovered by Mr. Payscn, of Madras, and has been named the Asia, as it is the first discovery of the kind which has been made in that quarter of the globe. It is an asteroid betwoen the eleventh and twelfth magnitudes. SHOOTING. —We learn from a letter received from Mr. Titos. J.
