A magnificent table-topped mountain to the westward riiea to the height of 7000 feet, and the whole western shore of thin great gulf consists of mountainoiia ranges covered with everlasting mow. It wai named the Gull of Erebus and Terror ; it is about forty miles between the capes, and nearly as many miles deep. Excepting th* south part, it was lull of heavy pack ice, and there wen two spaces at its deepest parts whera no land could he I discerned, and which probably communicate with Dranslleld Strait.
