The lecturer, after briefly reviewing his first lecture, explained at length the theories of Agas- siz and Forbes as to the glacier movements. One theory was, as explained in the first lecture, that the surface of the glacier was fall of small fissures, through which the water trickled during the day and froze during the night, thus forcing the gla- cler down its bed the same distance during the night as the day—a fact not explained under this theory. . .
